Personalized, Predictive, Precise, and Preventive Medicine to Improve Early Detection, Diagnosis, Therapy, and Prevention of Depressive Disorders
This project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with a total funding of approximately €10 million, of which €1,500,848 has been made available to Hannover Medical School (promotional reference: 01EK2204A).
Depressive disorders are among the most prevalent psychiatric illnesses in Europe, with current therapies only partially effective in the long term. The P4D project aims to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of depressive disorders through the identification of subgroups and the development of personalized therapeutic approaches. The consortium includes ten partners, such as Hannover Medical School, University Medicine Greifswald, University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (Kiel Campus), Fraunhofer ITEM, Goethe University Frankfurt, Leibniz University Hannover, University Hospital Würzburg, TU Braunschweig, BioVariance GmbH, and the German Depression Aid Foundation.
The project focuses on clinically validating a blood marker for antidepressant response, recruiting and deeply analyzing a large cohort of patients, and using machine learning to identify new subtypes of depression. Based on these findings, innovative and publicly accessible decision support tools will be developed to enable personalized treatment.
The initiative advances the translation of personalized medicine into clinical practice to foster the development of new products and procedures and improve patient care.
