History
The Peter L. Reichertz Institute (PLRI): more than 50 years of tradition in Medical Informatics
The Peter L. Reichertz Institute for Medical Informatics was founded by Technische Universität Carolo-Wilhelmina zu Braunschweig (TU Braunschweig) and Hannover Medical School (MHH). The institute has sites in both Braunschweig and Hannover. The objective was to create a regional cluster of excellence in the field of Medical Informatics.

More than five decades of Medical Informatics
- 1969: Peter L. Reichertz became a professor at MHH and started the development of the Medical System Hannover (MSH).
- 1974: Foundation of the Institute for Medical Informatics at MHH (led by Prof. Reichertz until 1987).
- 1975 – 1988: Minor subject medicine in the computer science program of TU Braunschweig, organized by Prof. Reichertz
- 1986: Dietrich Peter Pretschner became a professor at the University of Hildesheim. He moved to Braunschweig in 1996.
- 1996: Foundation of the Institute for Medical Informatics at TU Braunschweig
- 2000: Herbert K. Matthies became a professor at the MHH. Since 2008, Prof. Matthies was head of the MHH site of PLRI until his retirement in 2013.
- 2004: Reinhold Haux became a professor at the TU Braunschweig.
- 2007: Foundation of the Peter L. Reichertz Institute for Medical Informatics (PLRI).
- 2008: Michael Marschollek became a junior professor at MHH.
- 2015: Michael Marschollek became a professor at MHH.
- 2017: Thomas M. Deserno became a professor at TU Braunschweig.
- 2019: PLRI celebrated 50 years of Medical Informatics in Germany with EFMI STC “ICT for Health Science Research” and the Peter L. Reichertz Symposium in Hannover.
- 2020: Tim Kacprowski became a professor at TU Braunschweig.
- 2021: Reinhold Haux became professor emeritus.
- 2021: Steffen Oelze-Jafra became a professor at the MHH.
- 2022: Helena Zacharias became a professor at the MHH.
