2018-11-02: Dr. Andreas Reinhardt: Energy Informatics meets Embedded Systems: How Distributed Computing can Support Future Power Grids

29.11.2018, 13:00 – 14:00 Uhr, Informatikzentrum, Mühlenpfordtstraße 23, Raum 161

The ubiquitous availability of electrical mains power is one of the key achievements of the 20th century. The rise in renewable generation along with increasing load dynamics in today's power grids, however, necessitate their transformation into "smart grids". A key enabling element for this evolution is the possibility of fine-grained status monitoring. It is generally facilitated through the digital collection and processing of consumption data and status parameters from the power grid, their distributed (pre-)processing as well as the collection, fusion, and interpretation of such data. In this presentation, I will talk about the enabling technologies for smart power grids as well as presenting a selection of my scientific contributions from the field of energy informatics. Moreover, I will discuss the increasingly important role of embedded systems to accelerate energy analytics and their necessity for the successful roll-out of smart grids.
