Summary
In health care, the use of patient data for clinical research and for quality assurance is a central factor in scientific work in medicine. Against the background of the developments in information technologies for processing large amounts of data (machine learning, big data) new questions arise.
As part of the HiGHmed project, a compulsory elective module for medical students is being developed that offers an introduction to the subject area. Together with experts from medicine and medical informatics, aspects of the collection, management, evaluation and application of medical data will be addressed. Students thus acquire the basic skills to assess challenges and opportunities in the reuse of medical data. In addition to the basic understanding of information technology aspects, the students acquire the methodological competence to carry out a data-based research work in the sense of data literacy.
The module is offered as a compulsory elective module in the model study course for medicine HannibaL at the Hannover Medical School.
